A selection of projects that showcase our capabilities.
Pump Station Roof Structure
Client: Bloemhof Waste Water Treatment Plant
Contracted By: DESDRA Consulting
Scope: We were commissioned to supply a complete 3D model of a pre-designed roof structure and produce General Arrangement drawings complete with shop detail drawings for fabrication.
Skip Conversion to Inspection Rig
Client: Harmony Gold - Eland Mine
Contracted By: HMAE
Scope: Due to the fact that Eland now only operates as a pumping shaft, the need for skips has become reduntant. We were commissioned to convert an existing skip to an inspection rig by stripping it down to its main load path members and designing the said rig to fit within the bridle. Additionally, small platforms were designed in order to do maintenance on the in-shaft pipe columns. The rig features quick-release screens to access the foldable platforms. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings and shop details.
Workshop Extension
Client: JC Consulting & Specialised Services
Contracted By: JC Consulting
Scope: This commission included the design of an extension to an existing workshop. The extension was designed to accommodate a 40T rail-bound crane. Due to the height of the crane, it became necessary to make use of hanger bay type doors that reaches 10m in height. On-site measurements were done by means of a 3D scan to determine the existing structure and the tie-in points. As with all direct commissions, a 3rd party registered professional engineer was consulted to verify and approve our design. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings and shop details as well as a signed off design review report.
New Machining Workshop
Client: JC Consulting & Specialised Services
Contracted By: JC Consulting
Scope: The client was in the process of expanding their operation and commission us to design a new workshop. The workshop houses a 5 ton overhead crane to reach every station on the shop floor. Additionally, a double storey office complex is located at the front end of the workshop as well as two garages for power and water supply systems. The shop also features two 6m X 6m roll-up doors at the back end and side. As with all direct commissions, a 3rd party registered professional engineer was consulted to verify and approve our design. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings and shop details as well as a signed off design review report.
Raw Mill Grinding Foundation
Client: NPC - Intercement SA
Contracted By: NPC - Intercement SA
Scope: During NPC's multi million rand expansion we were commissioned to assist in generating bending schedules for various civil designs. One of note is the raw mill foundation that consisted of a first and second phase casting. In addition to our reinforcing layout drawings we also provided a 3D model of the reinforcing that greatly assisted the civil contractors.
212 Level : CV-06 Conveyor Belt Extension
Client: Harmony Gold - Doornkop Mine
Contracted By: HMAE
Scope: During Doornkop's expansion project of 207L & 212L we were commissioned to design the extension of an existing conveyor belt named CV-06. The extension became necessary due to an additional tip and orepass from 207L. At the bottom of the orepass a bulkhead was designed to fit within a pre-blasted cubby. The ore is funnelled through a chute onto a vibrating feeder which in turn feeds the ore onto the extended conveyor belt. A 3D scan was done on the entire conveyor belt. We used this point cloud data to generate excavation profiles for our drawings and to determine the tie-in points for the extension. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings and shop details. We were later commissioned again to create as-built drawings which we also did from a revised point cloud data set.
Underground Sub-Station Enclosure
Client: Harmony Gold - Tshepong Mine
Contracted By: Extreme Projects
Scope: We were commissioned to design an enclosure for an existing underground sub station. The enclosure consists of two hinged gates and a large sliding gate strategically placed for efficient maintenance. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings and shop details.
212 Level : Refueling Bay
Client: Harmony Gold - Doornkop Mine
Contracted By: HMAE
Scope: During Doornkop's expansion project of 207L & 212L we were commissioned to design a refueling bay layout. A 3D scan was done in order for us to extract the excavation profiles to accurately fit the fuel tanks and screening. Additionally, we added a pipeline set to enable refueling at the shaft station. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings and shop details.
212 Level : Refueling Bay
Client: Harmony Gold - Joel Mine
Contracted By: HMAE
Scope: This commission involved an existing gantry to be modified and re-used as a pipe bridge. Pipe bridges being know for having their column bracing stolen led us to designing reinforced concrete pillars instead of braced column. As shown in the image the the pipe bridge replaces the function of the existing culvert under the road.
212 Level : Additional Tip for CV-06 Conveyor Belt
Client: Harmony Gold - Doornkop Mine
Contracted By: HMAE
Scope: During Doornkop's expansion project of 207L & 212L we were commissioned to design an additional tipping point on CV-06 conveyor belt. The purpose was to have a method of removing development ore by tipping onto CV-06. The structure features a grizzly with a rock breaker. The ore collects into an underpan that transfers onto a vibrating feeder which in turn feeds CV-06. Additionally, an akwardly placed barracading system was designed behind the structure to assist with forming a ramp for loaders to reach the tip.
Re-design of Existing Reclaim Feed Bin
Client: Harmony Gold - Target Plant
Contracted By: HMAE
Scope: Target experienced problems with the feed bin due to under-designed steelwork that was used in the structure. As an effect the main supporting beams began to sag causing the vibrating feeders to malfunction. We were commissioned to attempt at trying to fix the problem but would result in a complete re-design with correct support beam size and orientation. Measurements was taken by means of a 3D scan and the pointcloud data used to create a model. Deliverables included a completed 3D modelled design complete with General Arrangement drawings.
Re-design of Existing Reclaim Feed Bin
Client: Harmony Gold - Target Plant
Contracted By: Calibre Engineering
Scope: Target's waste rock dump is located just outside Allanridge against the Klip Pan. After some investigation the plant team determined that the dump contains some amount of gold and deemed it feasable to reprocess the ore. We were commissioned to design a conveyor belt system to convey the waste rock into the plant. The new belt would extend approximately 500 meters and crosses several culverts. At the time, the plant had already been making use of a Reclaim Belt to process ore stockpiles in close perimeter to the plant. The said reclaim belt would be extended to receive the waste rock from the newly designed conveyor belt. Our deliverables included a comprehensive mechanical design for both belts including Pr.Eng approved layout and construction drawings.
